Saving on your Water Bill
Follow these simple steps and you'll see savings on your water bill in no time! |
When it comes to saving your money, we try to look at every expense we have to pay. From your automobile to your house mortgage, there’s always something small that you can tweak where you can save a few bucks a month. Just remember that every single dollar counts and it all adds up!
If you own a home or you even rent, you know by know that you have to pay that utility bill each and every month. Below are a few tips you can follow to possible deduct a few bucks off your monthly bill that you dread paying.
Check for leaky faucets
A leaky faucet can cause a lot of damage to your bill believe it or not. A leaky faucet can sometimes drip at a rate of 2 gallons per hour. Multiply this by a month and you’re paying for water you never used. If you do have a leaky faucet, make sure you make an appointment or fix it as soon as possible.
Take shorter showers
An average shower uses 6-10 gallons of water per minute. If you cut your shower time by just a few minutes, you will save a few bucks right there. Even if you cut your shower off by five minutes, you’re going to save money. The next time you hop in the shower, keep this in mind.
Schedule your watering
In order to avoid evaporation, it’s important that you water your garden and flowers in either the early morning or late night. If you water your garden or flowers during the day, the water will evaporate a lot quicker and this will defeat the purpose of watering.
Only use the dishwasher when it’s full
Another great money saving tip is to make sure you only wash your dishes when the dishwasher is full. If you only start your dishwasher when you have a half of a load, this will be pointless since you can fit about another half worth of dishes into the wash itself. It’s almost like saying someone is offering you $100 and you only take $50.
Recycle your water
Our last piece of advice comes from the pet category. If you have a fish tank, dirty fish water is great for fertilizer for household plants. If you simply use this water for plants, you’ll have water that will work even better than your regular sink water. Keep this in mind the next time you clean out your fish tank.
If you follow the tips above when you’re looking to save on your water bill, you may find that you’re able to save a few dollars. Keep in mind that you’re not going to save a ton of money applying these techniques but rather just a few simple dollars. Every dollar adds up in the long run, even if it’s just one!
The important thing to remember is that you write these tips down and you try to get into the habit of doing so. If you apply these tips daily, you’ll start seeing the savings instantly.
