Paying
Off Your Credit Card Debt
Paying off your debt
can be tough. Read our tips on improving your debt. |
Credit
card debt can be a pain and can cause a lot of stress especially
if you’re not bringing in a whole lot of money each month.
Believe it or not, no matter how much debt you have, it’s
always possible to pay it all off and start life down the positive
flow path.
The
first thing you’ll want to do when starting to buckle down
and pay your debt is write down every single total you have for
each bill. Take every debt you owe, even if it includes your mortgage.
A nice tool to use is Microsoft excel. This will make it easier
for you to organize your debt and keep track. As you pay off your
debt, you can deduct the payment from your totals.
When
you have your bill organized and put into a spreadsheet or if you’re
old fashioned and have it written down on paper, you will want to
study and follow the next steps –
How
much money are you bringing in?
This
is the most important part to paying off your credit card debt.
If you’re only brining in $2,000 a month and you have $50,000
in debt, you’re going to want to find another part-time job
regardless of what it is. Jobs such as delivering pizzas, newspapers,
etc. are very easy to come by and can supply a very decent part
time income.
You
must also note that even though you bring in say, $2,000 a month,
you have to factor in all of your necessities such as your mortgage,
utility bills, groceries, etc. Without these bills being paid, you
won’t be able to live day to day.
Organize
your bills and hit hard
Looking
at a big bill can be very depressing. The more bills you have, the
less motivation you tend to get when it comes to paying them down.
The best thing you can do is take either the smallest bill you have
and attack that the hardest. This means pay off as much as possible
to that bill each month, while paying only the minimum on the rest.
There’s
either the smallest bill option or you can go down the route of
attacking the highest bill or the highest APR rate. The whole purpose
here is to pay off ONE bill only while paying the minimum on the
rest. You will want to focus on paying that particular bill off
each month while not worrying about the rest.
BUDGET!
People
often forget that a budget can take you a long way. Instead of eating
out each month, you can buy a box of ramen and tuna at the grocery
store. Eat well beyond your means. When we say low, we mean low.
Just imagine only paying $50 a month for groceries instead of $500.
It may be tough with a family but every penny and creative idea
counts. Below are just a few –
- Brown
bag your lunch, don’t eat out.
- Use
coupons
- Instead
of going out, make the action happen in the house
- Shop
at discount stores.
These
are just a few ideas that may help you. It’s up to you to
make your budget creative. Don’t punish yourself and do absolutely
nothing, this isn’t the way to live. Just because you’re
being cheap for a while, doesn’t mean you can’t have
fun!
Please
keep in mind that these steps are only a few you should consider
when paying off your debt. One of the main things you should concentrate
on is focusing on your debt. Every minute of the day you should
think “debt” and nothing else. If you’re self-motivated
and you focus toward your debt plan 100%, you shouldn’t have
a problem at all!
