Experts say simply taking care of your car can save you up to $100 a month, or two tanks of gas. Officials with Car Care Experts say you can actually add miles to every gallon pumped by following a few tips:
-Keep your engine properly tuned.
-Make sure to tighten your gas cap.
-Replace dirty air filters.
-Keep your tires well inflated.
-Replace worn spark plugs.
Officials say these tips apply to all vehicles, whether an car, SUV, truck or minivan.
"Many motorists don't realize that with a little bit of effort and a little bit of time, you can save a lot of money at the pump," says Lauren Fix, Car Care Expert.
Drivers say they are also combining errands, and limiting the number of trips they take to save gas. Some are also postponing road trips, or looking at other options like taking the bus or flying.

I was watching mythbusters the other day and they placed 5 gallons of gas in indentical SUVs and drove them around a race track. One SUV used it's air the whole time, while the other had all of it's windows down.
The SUV with the windows down was able to last 30 laps longer than the one with the A/C on. The SUVs were going 45 mph the whole time. |

| Here's another bit of advice. After you fill up at the pump leave the nozzel in your car, take the hose and lift it up. You will empty the gas that is left in the hose this way, and you can get about an extra 1/2 cup of gas this way. Every little bit will add up! |

I do that same exact trick. I'll leave the nozzle in and shake it around until it's clean.
I hate when I take the nozzle out of the pump and gas goes everywhere. |

| I'm curious to see what people are willing to pay for gas. |

Has anyone heard about that 'gas for the future' thing? There were a bunch of places where people were able to buy as much gas as they want at the current price for the future. Now they're saving 50% on gas, maybe more! It wasn't too long ago when gas prices were under $1.50 |

| Gas prices are starting to go down a lot over here. I just saw a gas station at $2.19/gallon. I'm curious if it will reach $1.99. |

Beyond that I think a weekly or bi-weekly fuel budget is what has helped me the most. That is, I set aside x amount of money to pay for fuel, once the car is out of gas I can not drive... It pays to be aggressive here, thou one has to be certain to have enough to get to-from work but doing it this way has forced me to cut out a lot of little nonsense trips. And in the end what saves the most fuel is having the car sitting in the driveway |

| One thing I've noticed is that some gas stations are charging less if you pay in cash rather than using a debit/credit card. A station near me in Somerville, MA is charging $.05 less a gallon for cash. I wonder if this trend is going to continue. |
