Tips for saving money on textbooks
1. Plan ahead. Know ahead of time what classes you are going to take, and what textbooks you are going to need as often as possible.
2. Buy your textbooks used, either online, at your college bookstore (although this is not the cheapest way), from other local bookstores, and or other students.
3. Purchase your textbooks early. Don't wait until just before classes start, otherwise many of the used textbooks will be gone, and you may find yourself having to purchase new ones or going without.
3. Buy the previous editions rather than the current one, often there is little to no difference between the two editions except that the new edition comes with some pieces attached like CD's or a study guide. (Hint: You can often buy the study guide used too!)
4. Find out if the book is in your college library. Often teachers will reserve a copy or 2 at the library for students. Generally you can only check the book out for 2 hours at a time, but you can photocopy the pages you need and then have them on hand that way, or you can use the 2 hours as actual study time to read your chapters and do the homework associated with it.
5. Another option is to get together with a few friends, purchase one copy of the textbook and then share it between you. While this isn't always convenient, it is still cheaper, and may actually encourage you and your friends to study and learn the material together.
6. Look online for the international editions of your textbooks. These are usually soft covered, and in black and white. Make sure you check that the website says the international version is the same as the version sold in the US, sometimes they aren't. These editions are 50% or more less than their hard backed US cousins.
7. Sell your textbooks at the end of the term/semester and use that money towards the next term/semester's textbooks. While you can usually sell your textbooks back to your college bookstore, you will not get as much for them as you would if you sold them online or to another student.
8. Find selected textbooks free to be read online. The only downside is there are ads throughout the pages. You can find these selected textbooks at www.freeloadpress.com, also another place to find selected textbooks for free, some online and some in e-book form is www.textbookrevolution.org

| In my case, we are required to but our textbooks from school so i have no choice. But for other references, I usually buy the second-hand books. So i won't be needing to spend much. But these tips are helpful, I'll keep them in mind. Thanks! |

It's really important that you plan ahead all the textbooks that you need to buy. In that way, you would be able to look for the cheaper ones. I get to buy books from other students, so it costs less. Sometimes, I just borrow it from them so I won't have to spend anything. Just make sure that you take good care of them!
