Category: CD Rates- gotalkmoney.com- 10:45 am/ December 16, 2008Just wanted to mention some CD notes this week. CD rates are down yet again. It looks like many banks dropped their rates, including GMAC Bank.
A few changes to look out for include 2 new #1 leaders –
Capital One has the industry leading 5 year CD at 5.00% APY. Capital One has a 5/5 bankrate.com star rating. Capital One CDs require a $5,000 minimum.
Nexity Bank has the industry leading 3 month CD as well as the 6 month CD. All of Nexity Banks CD rates require a $1,000 minimum.
Here are Nexity Bank’s CD Rates for 12/16/2008 –
- 90 day: 3.21% APY
- 6 month: 3.78% APY
- 9 month: 3.81% APY
- 12 month: 3.86% APY
- 24 month: 3.45% APY
GMAC was another bank to drop rates but still hold the 1 year, 18 month and 2 year industry leading rates. All of GMAC bank’s CDs require a $500 minimum. GMAC bank has a 4/5 bankrate.com star rating

- 9 month: 2.60% APY
- 12 month: 2.70% APY
- 24 month: 3.00% APY
- 48 month: 4.00% APY — one of the best right now.
- 60 month: 5.00% APY — one of the best as well.
Since these are Chase CD specials, you’re going to need a minimum of $10,000 to open one. If you don’t have $10,000 to open up a CD, your rates will lower.

As of 12/14/2008, here are their current rates for their iCDs –
- 3 month — 3.20% APY
- 6 month — 3.75% APY
- 9 month — 3.50% APY
- 12 month — 4.00% APY
- 18 month — 3.65% APY
- 2 year — 3.85% APY
- 3 year — 3.90% APY
- 5 year — 4.00% APY
The long term CDs aren’t the hottest right now but take a closer look at their 6 month - 1 year rates. It may be something someone is interested in. All CDs require a $2,000 minimum opening balance.
