Columbus Bank and Trust Company
In
the fall of 1888, a hard working employee at Eagle and
Phenix Mills caught her skirt in a piece of machinery.
As it ripped, her life savings fell to the ground. Learning
that the lining of her skirt was the safest place to keep
her valuables, factory executive G. Gunby Jordan offered
to protect the money himself. He placed her hard earned
savings in the Eagle and Phenix Mills vault. In 1888 Mr.
Jordan formed a bank that would become Columbus Bank and
Trust. This simple act of kindness and the security of
that vault door was the beginning of a different kind
of bank
