How to Save Money on your Grocery Bill

The average person dreads grocery shopping simply because it always seems to cost us an arm and a leg.  Yes, grocery shopping can be very costly, but there are ways to slash your bills in half and spend very little, yet still come home with several items.  Grocery shopping shouldn’t be an awful experience but instead a game for saving money!  If you think you are currently spending too much on your grocery bills take a look at a few tips that can help you save money on your future visits.

Limit yourself - Make sure you are limiting yourself to grocery shopping once a week.  We find that going into the grocery store a couple times a week allows us to spend more money and make unnecessary purchases.  Make it final and only go in that week day per week.

Use coupons - Something that is a no brainer is using coupons.  Do you buy things like shampoo, deodorant, laundry detergent and named brand groceries?  If so, there ARE coupons out there that can save you money.  We often complain about expensive grocery bills but when we get a coupon that saves $5 we’re too lazy to cut it out!  Collect all the coupons possible and use them.

Small carts - A little technique that seems to help many people is using a small shopping cart.  Avoid grabbing the large ones because they allow us to fill the cart up way too much.  If you use a small cart you are limited to what you can put in the cart, which will then only allow you to put the stuff you really need in there.

Sale items only - If the item that you want isn’t on sale don’t get it!  If you really want to save money you can’t buy items that aren’t on sale.  Instead, find something similar that is on sale.

Stock up - When you see something you really like is on sale stock up!  Don’t just buy one of it but instead stock up until you think the next time it will go on sale.  This will allow you to avoid spending money when it isn’t on sale next week.  Doing this many seem expensive but really if you think about it you’re saving a lot more than you would if you were buying it not on sale.

Use all the help you can get - Have you ever heard of the great techniques “Coupon Mom and/or Grocery Game”?  If not, listen closely to how they work.  First, to do this you will need the Sunday paper.  Lets say you want a bottle of detergent that costs $5 regularly.  Instead of paying $5, one of these sources will tell you when it goes on sale.  So now, lets say it is only sale for 2 for $5, then one of the sources will tell you where you can find a coupon in your pile of coupons from the mail.  They will tell you what page it is on and where you can find it.  Now lets say the coupon is for $2.00 off.  That detergent that was $5 is now only .50 when using Coupon Mom or Grocery Game.  $5 on sale for 2 for $5 = $2.50 a piece, now use the coupon -$2 you end up only paying 50 cents.  See how easy that is?  Do that will all your items and see your bill shrink tremendously!

If you want to get involved with either Coupon Mom or Grocery Game simply type those in into the search engine to be brought to their main page to get started.

Grocery shopping doesn’t have to be dreadful but instead fun.  As you can see there are several different ways to save money on your grocery bill.  Stop paying high prices and use these techniques to start saving money!
